Ill be changing out my first filter tomorrow. Just put the 500 miles on it that sinister recommends to change the first one. When I get it open ill take some pictures and post them here. Really wanting to see what its like. Although the truck had a coolant flush and new oil/egr coolers replaced about 3000 miles ago.

From reading other posts it was recommended changing the filter after the first month - then the 3rd month and then the 6th month then yearly.

I just flushed mine 4 or 5 times with distill
then i changed the coolant filter

Originally i thought the head gaskets were leaking because i had the scum in the degas bottle

but then i read it was common to have that scum there from the coolant

Did my coolant filter today. It was pretty dang clean , so Im happy with that. Just had one small piece of silicone in it and very minimal amounts of anything else. I had to cut it open with a hacksaw so whats in the pictures is mostly metal shavings from cutting. Note that this is the 500 mile change that Sinister recommends to change your first filter. Also note that I had a coolant flush and oil/egr coolers replaced about 300 miles ago.

Make sure you're using NON-charged filters, otherwise your filter will always look like what JimRd has, even though that probably wasn't his issue.

I thought I had read to change the first filter after 1k miles, then just go on for whatever interval you see fit. It will be easy to tell when the filter needs changing, see if the aluminum housing it threads on is getting hot or not. If it's still hot, coolant is still going through, if it's not getting hot, its clogged and needs changing.

What filters do they use? I know the Dieselsite one's come with Baldwin filters. There was a list floating around the boards of the ok filters use and the P/N's for them.

Sorry about the late reply. MKM sent Wix filters ( part# 24070 ) with their kits.

i used the nu motor sports aimsoil by pass filter kit

Ford 6.0, 6.4 and 7.3 Oil Bypass Systems and Billet Aluminum Filter Caps

the kit installed really good and fast

i got the deluxe kit with guage and the blue anodized fuel bowl

i just drilled two mounting holes for the existing diesel site coolant filter kit and changed the
3 8 coolant hose

i used the proper filters supplied by diesel site ( non charged ) for the coolant kit
