Default Wrong oil filter

I recently purchased a 2003 Ford f250 with the 6.0 Powerstroke. The engine is a 2005. I went to do an oil change and got a filter from my local NAPA. they gave me a 7312. The instructions in the filter box shows that this filter can only be used with certain type of filter housing identified by the center post. The center post on my truck is the style that requires a different filter, a 7311. The problem is the truck had a 7312 in it. I have the correct filter and will get the correct cap. My question what problems or damage was done by using the wrong filter. Did it still filter the oil?
THANKS!

Mainly oil supply and pressure, the cap pushes down on the center tube for avoid oil airation during start up. You are probably ok for now but you better start usesing the correct filter to avoid any future issues.

I got it all taken care of. new filter and cap. the seal surface to seal surface are the same from what I removed to what was replaced so it was still filtering. I do think the NAPA might be better quality filter than the Motorcraft. Compared side by side
