Just wondering if someone can help to educate me on the vgt on my truck. I have seen one apart so I have a basic understanding of how it works. I guess what I am wondering is if the vanes are ever partially opened? Or are they either opened or closed with no middle ground? Not sure if I am wording this correctly....

 

Its truly variable, the actuator varys the amount of oil flow/presure/ to find the optimal output for the rpm and load on engine, its not only full open-full closed
