Default Noobie with another tuner question??

I am the proud owner of a 2005 F250 6.0L PSD. The Guy that I just recently purchased it from had the ARP head studs put on along with 4" turbo back exhaust and EGR Delete. The only problem is right before I got there he removed his progammer. Now I am in the Market for a Quality Tuner that won't break the bank or the truck. I have read alot of good comments about SCT, but no one really said if they liked the stock tunes on this thing. My truck is currently running 37" BFG's and stock programming gets me about 12.5 MPG. Tempted to move down to a 35 or maybe lower but not untill the 37's are shot.

Does anyone have any good Ideas??

id say ur right on with sct but at the same time. im running the canned tunes from sct bc i dont have headstuds on the truck yet and they are good. they are alot better than my superchip but again they will never stack up against custom tunes. in my case i have the sct livewire and with all of the custom features it has i couldnt be more happy.

that being said you need to do your own hw into them. i know a couple ford guys that wouldnt touch sct for fear of death. i know some guys that run 6 position chips. basicly listen to what ppl have to say cause i know most of the guys on here know what they are talking about but in the end the decision is yours and you need to find what u want not what others say you need

very well put, the SCT is an awesome progammer, even the tunes that come on it are great, granted they aren't as good as custom tunes but they are about as good as it gets before you go into the whole custom tuning thing, you can pick up an SCT for around 400 bucks

If you get an SCT, GET THE CUSTOM TUNES. Custom tunes doesn't mean you have to get the highest horsepower program out there, you can mild custom tunes. The key with the custom tunes is the excellent transmission tuning (depending on where you get your tunes...)

I am fond of the Innovative Diesel tunes, and Doug from GoGo is a 6.0 wizard too. Running canned SCT tunes is not a lot different than running anything else out there....

Default HW started, Now its $ hunting time

Thanks, for the info guys. It still sounds as if SCT is the way to go. Now it is time for some price hunting. I think the X3 will be my best bet for me. Does anyone know who is running the best deals out there?

yeah, I got to looking at the SCT web site and I have a certified dealer about 30 min. from the house. The next afternoon I have off I'll have to swing by there.

I'm running Elite Diesels tunes on my X3 and I'm really happy with it. I leave mine in a race tune and it whoops up on my old Edge Juice's race setting, cooler EGTs and less smoke too. I want to try out Innovatives Tunes to see how they stack against Elite.

If you buy from your local dealer, you're going to have to pay for the custom tunes on top of that. If you buy directly from Innovative, you get the custom tunes for free with the purchase ($80 upgrade for extreme tunes though).

If you buy from your local guy, and want tunes after, Innovative charges $65 per tune, and $80 for extreme tunes, and $165 for a bundle of three tunes, so you better be getting one hell of a deal to not buy from them directly.
