You'll know if the white smoke is unburnt fuel... it'll ahve a heavy diesel fume smell to it... mine puts out white smoke when it's cold and it's unburnt diesel and i can tell because the smell will burn your nose and make your eyes water... if it smells sweet your burning coolant not diesel...

I also get what appears as white smoke, but it's just moisture. I get this when it gets to about 20 degrees F and colder, obviously. Just something else to think about.

I was having this same issue all winteron my 04. It would run kinda rough and lack power for the fist couple of miles, even after i let it warm up for about ten minutes before driving. Finally took it to the dealer this last week and found i had 4 bad injectors. Gonna change all 8 while it's apart, truck has 177,000 miles on it.

As far as an egr costing 1200 for parts and labor, thats inasane. Here in Michigan the dealer charged me 600, which is still insane. I just replaced it yet again and this time it cost 150 and about 30 minutes of my time. If you ever need another one, contact me at zingalawa@comcast.net and i'll give you a place up here that will ship it to you. they are real easy to change.

see i just dont trust myself working on my truck...i work outta my truck 9 times outta 10 so a day that its down really hurts and i know if i tried to clean the egr with out someone standing over my shoulder and tellin me what to do i would mess it up...a risk im not willing to take...

but im sittin at 95k so im hoppin to be able to make it outta warrenty without another egr and then that thing is goin bye bye...and once its off im gunna take it to my deer lease and im gunna shoot it full of holes

I have seen alot of this up here in Mn. What we have doing is running that rev-x oil additive in our trucks for the last 2 years and no issues! No smoke, No chugging, no more horrible cold starts! And we were having really bad issues with our fleet. 26 mini coaches with 6.0's. If you haven't tried this, you really should! Best money spent for maintenance that I have seen on a 6.0 powerstroke. Or you could keep doing this

I have heard VERY good things about the Rev-X and will be trying some myself very soon. You can get a discount on it if you are a member of powerstrokenation too.
