white smoke

ok...so im getting a little white smoke when the engine is at low temp and im running higher than idol rpms...now it stops when the engine temp comes up to the normal lvl but its worrying me bc i really dont wanna have to put another egr valve in my truck and have the dealership have it for 2 weeks...and i still have warranty left so i dont wanna do a delete yet

diesel fuel smokes a little when colder than ambient temp, it will go away when fuel temp gets higher there shouldn't be any problem how manny miles and when did u change fuel filter last?

riddick01 03-03-2010 07:15 AM

just over 94k on the truck and the fuel filter was changed somewhere between 87 and 90 thousand (its almost time to change it again but im gunna try to push it to 97 or 98 and have my mechanic look at the truck and check the entire thing out so i can take it to the dealership and have them address any problems under waranty)

2 weeks for them to put in an egr valve?!?!?! bring it to me and i'll go it in 20 min for half the price lol

any labor at a dealership you dont have to buy is money saved

riddick01 03-03-2010 07:59 PM

see my problem is that the 3 dealerships close to my house do alot of 1 ton commercial work for centerpoint energy and att and stuff so they are always backed up...ive found a shop where i can get it done but if i go to the dealer under warrant its 100 bucks and he wants 1200...and if im gunna spend 1200 im just gunna do a delete...but i dont wanna void my warrantys because i know it will be just my luck that ill blow the trans or a head gasket and then have to pay for it out of pocket

tough call. i konow the ford dealer here in town gives me hell every time i call for waranty. maybe the time consuming way to go would be the safe way. if there is another hidden problem at least it will be under warranty.

$1200 to replace an EGR valve? Are you kidding me? It cant be more than 30 min worth of work even at a dealer.... it's only 2 bolts holding it in.

Buy the delete kit and be done with it!

Why would a faulty EGR valve cause white smoke? White is usually water... blue is oil... black is fuel....

Even when mine is cold and gets the puff of smoke on start up it's a light gray, not a real white.

riddick01 03-04-2010 06:16 AM

thats what it is....its a white with a touch of blue...

What outside air temps are we talking? I get this a little bit when it's colder out. It's quite profound coming out of the stacks too, a lot of moisture. The light haze of blue is probably just fuel. Unless it's excessive, it's probably nothing to worry about, especially since it goes away once it warms up.
