Our issue was having the truck start up on diesel, then switch over to WVO once it was up to temp, so the diesel stopped pumping, so whatever was there sat in the HFCM just being heated non stop with no flow, so algae (or fungi!) grew at alarming rates. Guys rarely changed fuel filters because they were lucky to put 30 gallons of diesel through it over a period of a few months. Then they started having issues running on diesel and pulled the filters and low and behold... realized the heater wasn't helping anything, and some guys even run aglae-cide in their diesel and WVO tanks now.
Now I understand your issue a lot better! The sites where I read up on this all were geared towards long term storage rather than daily use, but for guys who use WVO their on board diesel tank IS long term storage!

The only time common practice would be two regulate fuel pressure before it goes to work would be on a Carburetor !
My truck fuel system was stock, I had problems like this with just putting a high power sct tune on it! I put a blue spring upgrade, - didn't fix it,
Still if I stood on it , it would drop to 25-30 psi, idle be at 58psi.
So I put a sump kit ( bottom of fuel tank) then ran 5/8 line to a simple
Ppe lift pump ( I set to 12 psi) then 3/8 line to stock pump .
Now I am running at 68-70 psi idle or driving along, stand on it and it only drops to 60-65 psi , I tried it with the Ppe lift pump turned off and it runs 60 psi and 50-52 when I stand on it ,

I am planning on doing studs and 155 cc injectors later, if this fuel supply doesn't keep up , I am thinking of running pump/filter like airdog or fass low pressure (12-18) then to a aeromotive 1000 ( or something like that ) then to the heads and a reg return kit

Thanks I will give it a try, did you notice a difference in power once the fuel pressure quit dropping?

I didn't notice any power difference , but just a piece of mine that I have fuel to my
injectors.
It's kinda funny after posting this, last night I was about an hour away from home
and my little lift pump died on me( was driving through lots of slush and snow) . I was still able to drive it slow with the high tune still on it, I just had to keep an eye on the fuel pressure , when it would get down to low 50 s I would just let up till it built back up to 60 then continue
Kind sucks , I am now going to look at a little bigger lift pump , like a fast or air dog , I found the Ppe little pump to be really loud

Easy fix today , the electric motor had got moister on brushs, a little cleaning and
drying , and a new fuse , pump is back up and running , sweet!
