Transmission question from a new guy
I'm considering buying my first diesel and my budget puts me in the early to mid 90s for what I want. I'm somewhat familiar with the fords from those years, but not the diesels. My question right now is did the F250 4x4 Diesels come with the same automatic transmissions as the Diesels, and what about the F350s? Those automatic transmissions were the only thing I didn't like about those trucks (gas). Seems like most folks that I knew who actually worked the truck from time to time had to rebuild the transmission around 100~150K. I'm just curious whether or not I need to be focusing on just a manual transmission or not. I figured instead of $2K a pop to have an E40D rebuilt, I can spend $200 on parts and rebuild my own 5 or 6 speed when that time comes.

IIRC the E4OD was used up until the super duty debuted. But I am not exactly positive about it. If it were me I'd look in to something with either the T-19 4spd or the ZF-5 5spd. Both of which are indestrucible. I have a t-19 in my rig but hope to swap it out for the ZF-5 so I can have the OD.
But in regards to the E4OD there is a company called BTS I forget exactly what it stands for but they rebuild E4ODs and they have very high standards and build quality parts
