Default Transmission

I just got a '92 F-350,7.3l dually pickup. Diesels are new to me, this is my first. I have a manual transmission 4 speed with OD, and also have a manual push pull **** attached to the shift lever. How do I find out what transmission I have (same transmission from factory), and what is the purpose of the **** on the side of the manual shift lever?

Would be a ZF6 If I'm not mistaken, could be wrong though. And usually a button on the shifter is for the high/low, on rids there's a button on the side that you use with your thumb and that **** you're referring to is used with the index finger.

on rigs such as semi's not rids

So it would be a 5 speed .. wich would be a ZF5 .... the lever could have been to a PTO unit that the previous owner had on the transmission ... was your truck a tow rig ? sounds like something you would find on a truck that used to be a tow truck ...
