Default Adjust Trans. Bands?

Is it necessary to adjust the transmission bands? The books says to do it at 135,000 miles but the local transmission shop says it isn't necessary, What is your take on this?

Its best to leave them alone unless you want to run the risk of premature failure. You can do it but most trans shops say not to mess with them because they are easy to overtighten and burn the bands up.

My transmission shifted really sloppy when I got it; I adjusted the bands and it cleared up.

Adjusting the bands also gives you a chance to check band wear; if they don't have enough material to be adjusted, chances are you're going to get some binding in the near future.

adjusting bands on a 727 trans is like changing the oil, after all our trans are just modified 727's. The front band is second gear, and is adjusted outside the trans. The rear band is reverse/low and adjusted just inside the pan. It's really not hard....torque down then turn back XX amount of turns. Loose bands lead to mushy shifts and heated contaminated fluid especially low and reverse that generally get worked harder. If you're not comfortable, take it to a shop, but just don't forget about them. Ignorance is not bliss

yeah I thought the bands were supposed top be adjusted at every service interval.

I adjusted mine on my 98. it isn't hard but you should do it with a torque wrench
