Default 06 48RE trans

I have a 2006 5.9 cummins 4x4 with the 48re tranny. The truck has 225xxx miles on the original transmission. I know it's weak. I changed the fluid at 80xxx an it smelled a little. A week later it fell out of drive and coasted then engaged again. It has never done that since. But recently last 40xxx it slips from first to second to where I have to lift off the throttle to get it to shift. Up hills from a start is a chore in itself. A couple of weeks ago the converter wouldn't unlock and was pulling hard from stops. Only did this for 2 days and hasn't since. I live on a farm and every now and again pull a gooseneck flatbed with hay, possibly a gravity wagon of crops and every weekend I pull a 36' enclosed trailer hauling a dirt race car (still haul the car just very easily on the tranny) I have never adjusted the bands and was a GM guy originally. So not to familiar with this tranny. So my question is...does this unit need replaced-rebuilt or a few adjustment with bands an some solenoids. Any input would b great an if any more info is needed just ask. Thank you. Khris

I have another 48re in my garage with less than 50xxx on it. I am going to get it rebuilt. I am going with a single disk billet converter and a shift kit. Also thinking about replacing the front band. I don't race or pull this truck...it is my daily driver. Would these few upgrades satisfy my needs? Or is it overkill or under kill? Any input would b great!!

@ dangerous 1965 So who would you go with for trans parts? I've read several comments about suncoast and others I've rebuild several 48res and had no issues but used rebuilder kits from my friends tranny shop I've got a 185k on mine
