Pumps
And Sluggo, to answer your earlier question, yes there are two pumps, but both serve different purposes. The lift pump moves the fuel from the tank, through the filter and to the CP3 (on newer trucks like yours and mine). The CP3 pump takes the fuel and raises the pressure to around 20,000 psi for injection.
Thanks Guys for takin the time to help.
Is the stock system pretty much at it's max rating? How much can you mod. this engine before ya need upgraded fuel pumps? I realize stock is a four letter word, but ballpark figure. How much added power & still safe
Also, along with the mentioned features of the FASS and Airdog systems, They also take all the little air bubbles out of the fuel (hence, Fuel Air Seperator System) before it reaches the IP which increases power and MPG...A good addition to any truck, stock or modded IMO..
The lift pump like FASS is a good investment, the lift pump is one of dodge's weeker points on the diesel. Once you start upgrading your engine to run more fuel and more pressure you make this pump work a little harder then it's use too. The reason I say good investment is because if your lift pump does go it can go with out warning and when it goes your stuck. This happened to me as I was pulling 12000lbs of machinery into the downtown loop of chicago and I was lucky to coast to an off ramp and pullover. Fass also has a great warrantee and if you fill out the warrantee info correctly they will be very helpful if you ever have a problem down the road.

Sluggo, we all started the same place you did. The reason that we are on boards is to learn and pass on what we have learned. Once you start moding you will be bitten by the bug, good luck and have fun. One good thing you are in a group of brother, we have all been there, and are all willing to help when we can.
