Default Help. Keep burning up lift pumps

Ive been through 3 lift pumps in the last 6 months. The first one lasted 100 days. Then i was sittin in the truck and litterally watched the pressure drop from 12 psi to 5 sittin idling. So put a new lift pump on next day. Both of them only pumped about 12 psi right out of the box. Well i put that second one on 11-24-14 and it went out 1-17-15 less than two months. These are stockers from abc. Im pretty sure it should be more psi than that. So now im on my third one. About 3 days old its only pushing 12 at idle. I dont wana spend money on aftermarket lift pump if its just gona burn it out. A fuel injection shop said injection pump without ever even plugging it up or touching it. Now ive lived through the injection pump failure before. It gets hard to start or doesnt run right at all. They said the pump could be bad thus using more fuel burning up the pump now the truck runs fine has plenty of power and is NOT hard to start. I mean half a turn and shes running. But my pressures dropin way down sometimes down to 5 pounds some one PLEASE HELP me figure this out

Did you ever change your fuel filter?

The lift pump I got is regulated so I was able to adjust it to where I wanted.

What pump are you running now? Stock carter pump? The aftermarket pump I have works great. I hold a steady 18 PSI all the time with an occasional 19 when coasting down hill.

Changed my fuel filter today was kinda dirty not bad tho. Plugged pump directly to battery pushed about 10.5 pounds. Dropped down to 5 pounds before i got 100 ft so its not a voltage issue. Called CUMMINS this mornin. They said as long as pump is pushing somthin its fine. Said 5 pounds is fine 2 pounds min. This i a CUMMINS tech. I was i shock here i am supposed to be talking the the head honchos of cummins and he tell me 5 pounds supplying the vp44 is fine. I wanted to say so bad are you freaking kidding me. But i just said ok thank you. Then call another CUMMINS branch and they told me the same thing. What the hell are they thinkin? I wander if they were all having a big laugh about it when i hung up

You might want to look into a FASS lift pump. It will give you piece of mind. $600 now will help save $1000 down the road.
