you could man up and do it yourself, this stuff is what alot of the car shows on TV have been saying to use for a simple DIY paint job, no mixing, just makes sure you have a semi-clean area and a good air supply

That sounds like a pretty good idea. I think Im going to do it myself an see how that works out the only problem I dont have an enclosed area to do it

 

be careful. if you mess up using that "Paint Shop" paint it will have to be perty much completely removed when you re-do it using a better paint. if your paint is stock, base coat / clear coat, which it should be, then you can shoot it with a single stage, or a base / clear and it not be a problem. if it already has aftermarket paint and it is a single stage paint job then you have to either re-paint with a single stage or 2K primer the truck and then paint it with whatever. the reason is base coat over a single stage will blister the single stage and it'll look nasty..... when i painted my truck we had ~$400 in just paint, that was primer, 2 different base coat colors, and 2 gallons of clear. then between me and my friend we put prolly 200-300 hours in prep fixing dings, shaving body lines, shaving door handles, fixing a busted fender and stripping all the parts off that needed to be removed for paint. first we had to sand the original paint after all body work was done, prime, watch paint dry, block sand, prime, block sand, base coat 1, watch paint dry, base coat 2, watch paint dry, clear coat 1-4 w/~ 15 min or so in between them and let paint cure and dry for a day or so. then wet block sand the entire truck again and repeat the clear coat process. then wetsand and buff to remove all orange peel........ it took us over 2 months to do mine working on it on nights and weekends.....

i would have prolly charged $5-6K+ to do it on anyone elses truck..... was it worth it? hell ya!

 

oh ya if you are doing a color chage don't forget to paint the door jams too..... nothing looks worse than a blue truck with 2 tone green door jams.....

 

i am tackling mine as we speak so to say, and what i have learned it auto paint is like welding. 90 percent prep!!!!!!!!

we have been at it for about a week now and as of today the truck is down to bare metal. badges and trim have been shaved as well as the antenna. bondo is laid down. it has been a learning experience none the less....

many hours behind the orbital sander and covered in dust!
i will post up some before and after once im done!.

 

don't forget to use some good 2K primer.

 

Cool thanks for the advice benjamin. The truck has no rust an it has the factory paint on it. An thanks for the heads up about the door jams I hadnt thought of that. So how much money would I have to spend for the paint primer clearcoat and the sprayer? And Im not doing any body work other than the paint so how much time do you think I would be looking at to do the job? Would I have to take the doors and hood off to paint them?
