Hands down, I have gotten most of my junk off of Craigslist.
Moon, man I'm sorry, but I'm not getting reply notifications from this forum.
My number is 402-780-5127, if you want to talk.

for the cool factor i guess. i can tell you that ive done two of these. first one cost triple than the 2nd due to having all parts in front of me and not having to pay shipping and higher prices for parts because i needed them at the time. i picked up a good running 4x4 with no axles for 1000 bucks with engine trans transfer intercooler radiator etc. i paid that much just for the engine first time around

Do they have classified adds online in your area? I know for me, ksl.com classifieds are awesome, they are so easy to use. I will have to start keeping my eye on ebay and craiglist.

Well at this point, if I could find a mechanically sound cummins for $1000 I would fly anywhere and drive it back to Utah. Around here, if they are mechanically sound they will go for around $3500.

I use Craiglook: Craigslist Search for some of my C/L searches.

Moon, finding one that will RUN for $1000 isn't hard, it's getting one that will run and DRIVE for that much.
Having said that, I did drive a 5 speed truck back from California once for $800.

If you don't mind traveling, look in Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas, as most of what I have found cheap was in those areas.
As I mentioned earlier CALIFORNIA is also a good place to search, seen some really sweet deals on rustfree extended cabs for between $700-$2,000 out there.

Almost bought a 2wd dually 5 speed E/C for $1500 in the LA area.

100% agreed on buying a whole donor truck. makes it so much easier.

but really mine wasnt that expensive. i added it all up the other day, total of about $3100 gross. after selling my old motor and tranny for $400, brings it down to $2700, and after selling the Dana 80 from my donor truck for $600, itll bring it down to about $2100.

a little over two grand for a freakin awesome truck? im stoked. its been a fun weekend with the Fummins =)
