dt466 transmission
okay i need to know what transmissions were avaliable for the dt466 in the medium duty trucks i need one with a overdrive. i am putting a dt466 in a crewcab 1 ton 4x4 1988 i found a 7 spd that was behind a 7.3 in a big truck but the guy knows nothing about it it was a 1995. I would prefer auto but now I am looking for anything need the lowest rpms at 70mph with 3.55 gears Would like it to turn about 1500 to 1800 rpm at 70 with 35 inch tires
We have a couple DT466's in our fire trucks and both are auto's, we have one in a tanker and that will hardly ever reach top speed (which is still limited to 110km/h as are all the trucks) as well as in our rescue van, its in a 4600 international and only 4-5 years old, still nothing to write home about, it has a decent cruise at 100km/h but I'm not sure where you'd be at going 70 with 35's....
The 7.3/DT444 and the DT466 may have the same bolt pattern, I'm not sure. You'll have to do some research on the different manual options, there are some with OD's (RTO's etc..) and some that don't. Slap a big ole slush box in there and go double over...
BTW both of the trucks have allison's, forget the models right now.
