The 4L80E is very reliable when build right!!! The Boys at All American Transmission in Denver Co can build you a sweet 4L80E that wont break the bank and will hold up to a Stout 5.9L Cummins. They did mine for $300 plus parts!!!
My selection of parts included a solid Transparts kit, Superior Shift Correction Kit and New Converter and it cost me $500 shipped!!! Jeff and James stand behind their builds and have excellent customer service. Check them out (303)287-4333.

My 5.9L is a 99 24v. We put 125hp injectors from Diesel Auto Power a HX40 turbo with a SteedSpeed straight T4 manifold, raptor lift pump with a big line kit, boost fooler, and Quadzilla Adreneline box! This is all in a 92 GMC Sierra clubcab 4x4 dually!

Does anyone here have good info on completing the wiring so that everything works properly? I have a 97 K2500 4x4 with the NV4500. I'm concerned about hooking up the tach, (i'm figuring I'll do the mod and keep the chevy alternator), the lights, cruise control etc... I'd also like to know what the opinion is on the 12 valve p7100, or the 12 Valve VE ( 89-93) Logistically speaking, I'm wondering which one is going to be harder to set up electronically, because really, I just want a mild upgrade on the engine. I need it to be a daily driver/hauler, and maybe install a programer to turn it up on the weekends when I want to win the pot at the truck and tractor pull... Nothing CRAZY but everyone wants that little oomph so to speak... I know I'll have to get the bell housing, (which will be easier for the P7100), the new main shaft, the dodge 4x4 tail housing and convert my transfer case shaft to dodge.... but what I'm more worried about is the electrical, and my truck passing an inspection (required in Texas)...

SO any good reading would be helpful that really compares the two, as it applies to the conversion and which one makes better sense. I know that some of the motor mounting spots are different on each engine, which is a concern as well.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated...

Default 4l80e build

Thank you very much for information, I've always had confidence in this transmission being able to hold up to the cummins but it seems nobody uses it. I love the Allison but the expense is crazy and I have 2 4l80e transmissions in my garage. Was your total bill $800 for parts, labor and shipping ? Was there a core charge or did you send your transmission to them ? Are you using 1 of the aftermarket controllers ? Which one if so ? Again thanks for your help.

I took my truck to them they built two trannys for me, the 4L80E for the Sierra and and a 4L60E for my wifes Tahoe. Ok here are the details. The 4L80E was as follows: $300 for the build $375 to remove and replace it. GM 4L80E Overdrive Transmission Rebuild Kit from TransParts Warehouse was $200, Superior 4L80E SHIFT FIX KIT $70, 4L80E SOLENOID KIT W/SPEED SENSORS 7 PC ALL BRAND NEW $140 and GM 4L80E INTERNAL WIRE HARNESS $40 all from Electrical Advantage. Torque Converter $150 from Torque Converter Buy 700R4 4L60E E4OD A4LD E4OD AXOD. And a GM 4L80E TRANSMISSION CONTROLLER SIMPLE SHIFT from PCS is was $500. The boys at All American will ship but I am close enough that I just drove to their shop.

i would be weary of paying $150 for a good aftermarket torque converter. seems like it would be cheap like the price but thats just my opinion

Default 4l80e

Do you use your truck as just a daily driver or do you do any trailer towing or heavy hauling ? The truck I'm putting together is a chevrolet cucv military 1 ton that I use for snow plowing hauling and daily driverbut it will see a little abuse. The 5.9 is a 93 engine that is mildly tuned nothing as serious as your 24 valve .how do you like 24 valve engine has there been any issues with the injection pump ? Thank you for all your info.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

1 more thing I thought of what bell housing adapter did you use? Was it one of the aftermarket housing and flywheel packages from Destroked ? Was there any issue if that was what you used ?

Default 6.5 is not the motor for a real tow truck,

GM put the 6.5 in 1/2 tons for along time. If you're looking for a diesel and don't need to make a ton of power try looking for a 6.5 to put in there. They're not as bad as their reputation makes them out to be.
those 6.5 are not worth a ****, no power and they break when loaded, I got one, putting in a 5.9.

It would be nice if there was a place to buy the motor and tranny mounts for the 5.9 with a 545, I think that is a good tranny, yes not as good as the 1000. These trannys are an easy find and come complete. I just got my motor and tranny cost 2000gs with 150k on it 1995. My mission is to haul heavy, short haul, keep under the all the big regulation that are my state, CHP, BIT, motor carrier, Insurance, DMV think I missed a few. Tim
