I'd also like to know what the opinion is on the 12 valve p7100, or the 12 Valve VE ( 89-93) Logistically speaking, I'm wondering which one is going to be harder to set up electronically, because really, I just want a mild upgrade on the engine. I need it to be a daily driver/hauler, and maybe install a programer to turn it up on the weekends when I want to win the pot at the truck and tractor pull... Nothing CRAZY but everyone wants that little oomph so to speak... I know I'll have to get the bell housing, (which will be easier for the P7100), the new main shaft, the dodge 4x4 tail housing and convert my transfer case shaft to dodge.... but what I'm more worried about is the electrical, and my truck passing an inspection (required in Texas)...

SO any good reading would be helpful that really compares the two, as it applies to the conversion and which one makes better sense. I know that some of the motor mounting spots are different on each engine, which is a concern as well.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated...
well... if you go with a 12 valve a programer isnt going to help you much considering there is no ecm to plug it into, the ve pump requires one wire thats hot with the key on to run, and any thing with a diesel that old in texas should just require a saftey inspection, im in travis county, heart of save the earth land and my 88 ford with 91 cummins in it and no muffler was exempt from emissions testing and just got the saftey.

Default Calif is the hell of change overs

Well now live in the great state of C A ( cant accept) anything, it seems that you cant change any motor unless it is the same year or newer. so texas seems easy to me. My question is which pump for the 5.9 1995 is the best , the Ve or the p, if I go to the year of my change out 2001, the 24 valve is electronic but I want to put it in a 2001 GMC 3500hd. They make it very diffacult, so me not of the electronic perswastion, what to do?

well, technically...you could build a 24 valve with the correct year to please the green fascist private property stealing (in the name of the earth) commies, and then set it up to run a mechanical pump, just a thought.

I've got a stock 4L80E behind my Isuzu in my half ton. It holds up fine but I wouldn't put one behind a Cummins.

I also have a 98 3500HD with a p-pump 24v. That has a 13 speed Eaton behind it though. The build isn't done yet so I can't give any real info on that though.

i like your signature i have a eaton 15 speed shiftknob, i would like to see how you do the clutch linkage on that 13 speed, i saw a 80s dodge with a ten speed in it but it wasnt finished, he had the floor cut out of it and the cross shaft for the clutch arm was right about where the gas pedal should have been and i wondered how that was going to work. i have thought about putting in a fuller es 6 speed in mine

Yeah I'll try and get some pictures up. There's a thread running around the internet somewhere (I forget what site) of a guy with a 3500HD that swapped in a DT466 with a 13 speed. It was a really tight fit.

Default a/c help

I put a 97 cummins from a freightliner in my 93 chevy dually and made a bracket to use the stock chevy a/c compressor. At idle its blows cold but when touch the throttle the belt squeals and stops blowing cold. I have taken it to six shops now and no one can figure out the problem. Everything is new except the under dask unit. I have heard talk that the cummins crank pulley is a different size than the orginal 6.5 and that it may be spinning the comp. to fast. Any ideas?

Unfortunatly,it wont be anytime soon due to finances but I recently re-aquired a 1999 2500 suburban body and frame from a truck I sold back in 07 that I plan on doing a Cummins conv to.Eventually I will be in the right place at the right time to snag a donor truck to rape everything from.... preferably an 01 4x4 dually so I will gain the disc brake dana 80 rear and dually bed for my 99 2500 ram as well

Checking in...

I have a 1994 K3500 crew cab truck, with a 1997 Cummins 6BT engine, in front of the NV4500 transmission.

On a side note, also have a Cummins in a Jeep...
