I agree with cfarley, you wouldn't get a lot of smoke with a clogged filter. Have you made any progress on it?

since you have the injectors out you can get them all tested and elimanate that. after that i would go to your injection pump and check timing and have it gone through mabye something broke in there causing it to dump fuel

the only major problem is i dont have access to the tools needed to do injector testing, or fuel pressure testing... also, shopkey diagnosis says that a clogged water seperator or fuel filter can lead to excessive ammounts of blue or gray smoke, hard starting, hard idle, no power, basically everything that im experiencing... just got the new filters tonight, ill know tomorrow if i need to start buying injector tests and such

I think yer timing slipped...................happens sometimes as its a taper shaft that requires heavy torque

There's no key on the shaft of the IP. Like Whit said, it's a taper shaft. It has to be real clean and torqued properly. It's a pretty common problem.

TSB 18-10-94 Rev. A

That TSB is for a 94, but same thing.

are all of the specialty tools required or are you able to do it without them?

there is a way

you could bar the engine over until you can put the timing pin into the timing case then take the cap off the side of the injection pump and pull the plastic lock out and look up inside there with a mirror and see if the timing lock on the pump is centered in the hole if it is not then the engine is out of time
