I saw an Idiot blow the air intake box to smithereens on a Powerstroke once with ether, that was good for a laugh

 

i had the similar problem and it was the fuel shut off selinoid this is located by the injector pump and to check it all you nedd to do is pull it up when the key is on the cure that i was told to use was simpley remove it and clean it up wit emery cloth that has solved my problem

 

Have you replaced the fuel filter?
