Default 94 cummins 5.9 starting problems

Hi guys
I'm new on here. Trying to get some help on my truck.
I have a 1994 dodge 3500 cummins 5.9 and it only starts on starting fluid. When sprayed it starts fine. Shut it off and wont start again till you spray it with fluid? It also lacks in power.
I have had a couple of local guys look at it with not much luck. I had the wastegate valve replaced helped with a little power but need to fix the starting problem. I have been told it maybe (A) bad lift pump (B) hole in a hose (C) Sending unit in tank pluged?
Any dodge diesel guys know what i should do besides shoot it LOL I need help.

Thanks
Don

well first off its becaused you used starting fluid in the first place you dryed up the rings ever herd the saying once you use starting fluid on a diesel ts addicted to it? the 12vs only use 1 lift pump mounted on the driver side of the block the other pump is a p7100 injection pump. the lift pump you can buy most places around 150 bucks cummins, excetra dont go to dodge.

So you guys say if i change out the lift pump it should start and run good?

I had one othe guy say that he also said to run a electric pump between the tank anf the lift pump to help it out. Is that good to do?

I'm new with the diesels how does the starting fluid dry it out?

Thanks for all the help.

first before you spend any money on a lift pump go get a fuel pressure guage and see what the pump is making it may not be your lift pump. you dont need an electric the factor lift pump is powerfull enough to support fuel for over 500hp an aftermarket bump on a 12v doesnt gain your anything unless it has the filters then it just acts as a secondary filtration. check the cheep stuff first. does it smoke at idle once is running?

There is only black smoke when it first starts due to the starting fluid. How do i run a fuel gauge? i was going to use a hand held fuel gauge but could not find the adapter to go from the banjo bolt to 1/4 fitting for the gauge.

thanks for the help

you can go get a 1/8 npt tap and tap the banjo bolt into the p7100 fuel pump you can put a needle valve on it and a guage that will give you the lift pump pressure
