Well I just bought a 97 F350 with a 99 7.3 in it a few weeks ago. I have not even seen the truck because I am deployed. I have had my dad going out and starting it and driving it a little bit every week. Well he just drove it last weekend with no problem. He went out to start it yesterday and on second attempt to start it blew white smoke, the water in fuel tank light came on and now won't run.

Has this happened to anyone, and what do I need to have my dad do to fix the problem? He said that the front tanki was half and the rear was about 1/4 full but it's only sat for 6 days. Is there an additive or something I can use to get rid of the water in the tank if that is what the problem is?

Have someone pull the fuel filter, purge the fuel lines for a minute (turn on the key), suck out the filter bowl, then wipe the inside of it as clean as you can get. Replace the filter, restart the truck.

There is a drain valve on the fuel filter bowl. Should be on the left side of the front of the bowl as you face towards it. It has a yellow lever on it. Open it and let it drain out. That lets out the water. Thanks for your service!

 

Could also be somethin as simple as drying the sensor out. This time of the year with the sudden temperature shift condensation can build up in the sensor plug and trigger this also.
