oh it scared the crap out of me if i would have been paying attention it may have gotten out of hand luckely all it did was catch the wire on fire and not the battery cables or anything else. thats why i have a total of 3 fire extinguishers in my truck two automotive size ones in the cab and a big fire department size one in my tool box that weighs 50 poinds

 

just did a nengine swap in the 96 same problem it was a fuse in the box under the hood that takes a screwdriver to change now it is fine

How old is your alternator? Might be as simple as changing the brushes out.
