Question Dead batteries

Hi, I'm new to this forum and need help. My son (Bobby) has a couple of Cummins trucks and belongs to this forum. He said you guys may be able to help me. My wife called me at work to tell me the 03 Duramax truck was dead. No lights or anything. She had parked it just a couple hours before and it was fine. When I got home both batteries were stone dead. Hooked up my big charger and it pegged the meter. I found 95 to 100 amp drain at the 175 amp glow plug fuse. I suspect that the glow plugs and/or intake air heater are stuck "on". Anyone had this problem? I checked all the relays I could find easily. Anyone know what controls the glow plugs? I need to get a wiring diagram for this rig. Thanks for any help, Bob

Believe the ECM reads the engine temp sensor and uses the info on whether or not to close the relays. That's what controls em

Now as far as the draw, likely a relay welded itself closed. That's about all I can help. Someone a little more experienced can hlep a little more.

Thanks Wild Bill,
I agree that the relay is probably closed. I got my hands on the glow plug controls wiring diagram and it shows an integral dual relay for the plugs and the air heater. If I knew the location of this relay/module I could test it and the other related circuitry. I'll find it this weekend if someone doesn't enlighten me sooner.

Hey Dad Welcome!

I did some digging and from what I can tell It's the controller box looking thing above the driver's side valve cover at the rear. Also you can replace the entire controller for less than the price of an individual relay from GM and it will include the relay for the GPs and intake heater. Dont ask me why but thats teh way it is.

Here are some controllers. The pics might help you find what your looking for.

Chevy / GMC Contollers - http://www.usdieselparts.com

Did you pull the codes out yet?

After we get this all figured ot it will be time to start turning it up!
look around and spend some time reading. These guys will teach you ALOT about the truck!

The pics will help. Levi hasn't been by with the code tool yet. No hurry. Everything else seems to be working ok.
