6.2 diesel with 183m all of a sudden it started making a bang,bang,bang, and then no powere. no change in exhaust color.oil pressur 40psi, just a constant and even banging noise. I I have been told that the engine is #1blown, or #2 I have a bad injector,or #3 I have a broken piston.#4 bad rod bearing I have had this for 17 years and have just put a new tranny in

 

does the banging increase with the rpms?

Sounds like a spun main or rod bearing. Busted piston would cause massive amounts of smoke. Bad injector will cause some smoke, but you would still have power. 17 years on an engine, that's pretty good.
