2000 Hard Starting/Not Starting.

When you are having trouble starting the truck, is there any smoke coming from the tailpipe, and if so, what color is it?
About the grid heater, it will be right at the beginning of the intake manifold in the intercooler ducting. Driver's side of the engine. I would just check it for power supply first, with a test light or a multimeter. 10.5 to 17 volts.

Still not starting if the temp is below 35-40. Luckaly my boss lets me plug it in when I'm at work.
I put a Volt meter on it and watched it.
It starts at around 12v and jumps to high 14's after 10 secs or so it drops back to 12v. It jumped back and forth a few times while I watched it.
If I don't have to work tomorrow I'll be going to find a Crankshaft Position Sensor and a Fuel Pressure guage.
I havn't noticed any smoke when tring to start it.

Can you see the voltmeter in the cab do that? It seems like the grid heaters are working.
if its the crank sensors it should be throwing a code(s). but, you never know.

I got a digital volt meter that plugs in to the cig-lighter so I can see what it is doing now.
The CPS is throwing a code, but I have a hard time beliving that it is why the truck won't start in cold weather.

OK I put in the new Crank Position Sensor, and I'm parking it outside tonight.
Its supost to get down to around 10 tonight so it should be a good test. Well see.
I'm still looking at getting a pressure gauge fo it.

I would check fuel pressure.
Another thing to look at is replacing the rubber fuel supply lines. 2 in the front - 2 at the tank. These are notorious for developing microscopic holes and letting air into the fuel system. Another spot to look at is the heater on your fuel filter, the seal can let air in there as well.
