2000 Hard Starting/Not Starting.

I have a '00 with 225k miles on it. The Fuel pump went out about 2 months ago and I replaced it with the O'Rilleys pump.

Right before or after that(Can't remember for sure) it started idling rough.

Lately I have had trouble with it starting hard, sometimes it wont start at all.

It spins over fine just don't fire.

Any Ideas what to check first?

Welcome...

Do you have a fuel pressure guage?

Which fuel pump went out? The lift pump or the Injector pump (or both). Im not sure what an O Rilleys pump is??

Have you had it scanned for codes?

I don't have a pressure guage, I have been thinking oif putting one in.

It was the lift pump that went out.

The Codes where P0236 and P0336

Thanks for any help!

I believe those are some of the VP death march codes, let ol Doc and Uncle bubba see this they should be able to tell ya more...but i do remember from previous reading that hard starts are a symptom of the VP going out.

Sorry for the bad news:ouch:

P0236 Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

P0336 Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

How did you wire in your new LP? Was it just plug and play? If not and it's running while trying to start that could contribute to your problem.

Might try cleaning the MAP sensor that's #8 in the pic.

I retract my previous post:argh:

The New LP came with the right plugs that snaped right in.

I found the MAP but can't seem to get it out. I assume that it is screwed in, do you know what size deep socket I need to get it out?

Thanks

Dr. Evil 11-20-2008 04:59 PM

I believe its ~ 1 1/8" or 1 1/16"

Varmit57 11-20-2008 08:01 PM

OK I got it out, what can I use to clean it?

Is it ok to use like carb cleanner or is there something in there that I need to be careful of?

What is this thing for? MAP?

Dr. Evil 11-20-2008 08:13 PM

MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure - basically its the manifold pressure reading.

Its best to use electrical contact cleaner - but brake cleaner would probably work in a pinch. While you are at it, you might as well pull out your IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor (the one right behind it) and give that a cleaning as well. Its number 7 on the diagram, and takes an 11/16" deep socket.

BTW, its time for you to put a fuel pressure guage in and upgrade your lift pump.
