Some gauges don't register right. Had to hook a mechanical into my dads. Factory one was way off. I can only guess it had oil pressure before.

A few things I have noticed with my buddues 83. It has a second fuel filter. Causes hard starts when not changed.
Yes the starters suck!
The glowplug relay seem to play funny games too in the heat.
Never had any problems with the batteries. Except keeping the terminals claen! This will also play games with the starters and the relay for the glow plugs. Also we found a weird petcock above the framerail on the passenger side that was drawing air.
These are things I have found! I hope they help. And if you need any parts let me know. I might be parting a 83 suburban soon!
