Default starts then dies

So a few days ago i started my truck then it died twice then it ran fine after that. Then yesterday it started i got about twenty feet and it died like it ran out of fuel and wouldnt restart i got under the hood and pumped the primer up and it was really soft for about the first fifteen pumps then pumped up tight. It started right up and i drove home. I think its a fuel pump but i just wanted to get other ppls input if they have had similar problems. Its ether that or a air leak in the system somewhere. Also where is the lift pump on these things i cant find it on the frame railsor around the motor anywhere. I know its not in the tank because i replaced the sending unit and its not there with it.

i think you have an air leak. there is no lift pump on these unless someone added one. the stock pump (CP3) is located in the valley of the engine and sucks the fuel from the tank through the filter. if there is a leak then this will allow air to get in and you loose prim.

most leaks occur around the filter and rubber lines, check the bleed screw, primer bolb, hoses & the water in filter sensor. every once and a while the filter housing cracks and causes this too.

there are rebuild kits for the filter housing, may want to try on of these.

Ok thanks for the input i am staring to think its a air leak. Can i get a rebuild kit from a autoparts store or do i have to go to the dealer?

i wouldn't go the dealer, they will only sell the whole housing for $$$. i don't think any auto parts store caries then ether. looks like the best place to get them is on-line

Where do the filter housings usually crack? And are they fairly obvious cracks?

i dont think the cracks are obvious, more like a hairline crack. it should be visible if you pressurize the tank or line.

did you check the bleed screw? this would be the first one to check, sometimes they look good but will leak air under a vacuum.

i got by on mine for awhile with an "O" ring on the bleed screw, then some Teflon tape. then it finally cracked in half and i replaced it with a steel metric bolt.
