1993 6.5 cooling problem

I AGREE WITH YA, SOME PEOPLE THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL, BUT LIKE U SAID WHY R U HERE ASK
I don't know who you are JGG but the sarcasm isn't needed. My temps even on a hot day stay at about 180-189* according to my infrared electronic temperature gun. Oh but I'm sure you being such a good mechanic and an owner of an automotive shop yourself already have one of these tools yourself too. As far as big boy toys...get real man. What kind of person discourages another person? Oh...that kind of person. I know I am still learning even after being in business successfully for over 5 years with my own automotive shop and a mechanic for over 16 years but no one knows everything. Apparently if you knew everything you would'nt be asking questions yourself. I realize I am a small fish in a big pond for now and still learning a lot about diesels but be encouraging and helpful not mean and ignorant. Remember eventually small fish grow up and become bigger fish too so dont try and discredit me because it really makes you look bad. I am trying to help this guy with his cooling problems not get into a battle with you so please do the guy who started this thread a favor and keep it on point. Thank you for your time.

well show a 180degree stat for this motor . coolest i can find is 190. and it is funny your temp gauges start at 160degree so you mean to tell me that you gaugr stays pegged on cold at all time thats funny maybe you need to stick with automotive and let us big boys play with big toys.

Hey i have 96 dually 4x4 and i just put in a brand new long block motor, i have the dmax upgraded cooling fan and clutch, 110 gpm water pump, and 180 single stat, and when i have 2500 lbs of rock in the bed my temp goes up also, maybe 10 degrees? another instance me and a friend were at a truck pull and we decided to pull each other, 3/4 ton ford 6.0, after a couple mins, my temp was getting in the 200 range, im going to the dual 180 stat housing to c what that does? as far as radiator? gm didnt change the radiator core or size, it is sufficient for the dmax still to date, dont waste youre money in the radiator, FORT MYERS FLORIDA HERE, GOOD LUCK

The factory fan clutches engage too late, same with the aftermarket "heavy duty" clutches.
If you have a bolt on fan clutch then the Kennedy Diesel special calibration fan clutch is what you want-it is the ONLY fan clutch designed to engage at the proper temp.
Remember that once the air passes through the rad it is hot but not as hot as the coolant and that hot air flow is what engages the fan-it stands to reason that the fan must engage at a cooler temp.
There are many fan clutch mod threads all over the net that with a bit of effort can help even a stock fan clutch provided the clutch is still in usable condition and has not leaked it's oil out and now has a debris sweater.
