You might try an electric fan to increase your air flow. If you set it up with a t stat with a solinoid it will kick on at what ever temp you set and shut off with the engin or you can set it up with a manual controle to let the fan run a bit after you shut down the engin.

You have to use ONLY a GM thermostat in a single them setup. The water pumps suck on the earlier models. If you have a serp belt(which I think you should) you can change over to a waterpump from a 2000 model year. It has much better flow and partially solves the uneven flow problems in the rear of the heads. The 2000 WP will have a threaded hub not 4 bolt style so you can either build your own fan setup or buy a Heath Dmax one. Hayden makes a severe duty clutch for the threaded hub abd you can either use the factory 9 blade steel fan from a 2000 or a dmax fan but it may require trimming the shroud. I don't remember the part # for the Dmax fan but you can buy the whole fan and clutch setup from Heath.
