6.2 IP pump replaced - no start
This picture shows the current timing of the IP. As you can see I have it advanced a little bit. I have tried it with the lines together and retarded. And some positions in between.
We actual did try plugging the truck in and block heater works. Even though we are working in a warm garage the block is cold to touch. Hard to stay warm when we have had months of -35 and much lower temps.
We did crank it originally with injector line 1 lose. We did this until fuel started coming out and reattached it. Should we have left it off for a bit longer and cranked?
Also this evening we put a clear fuel line on return to IP and there appears to be no air in the fuel going back into IP.
There is smoke coming out of the exhaust. It's dark in color. Black or dark grey. In addition there are some fumes coming out of the intake after cranking. You can actually see the fumes rising out of the intake for awhile after cranking stops.
Oh the other thing I neglected to mention earlier is we are trying a different oil which was recommended by our local gm shop. We have always run 15-40 and now we have a synthetic 5-40. I probably should have made sure we had it running prior to trying this but hoped this would help the engine given our extreme cold temps. Was this a bad idea? I can certainly change this oil in a hurray if it will help us.
Thank you for your helpful suggestions.

Leave the fuel line loose untill after the engine starts.
These engines are supposed to self bleed, but that can take excessive cranking so the loose line speeds up the process.
At this point I question how well your glow polugs are working?
