Default 1996 Suburban

Friends,

I've found a 1996 Chevy Surburban w/6.5L diesel & AT in a pasture in south TX, which is in apparently good shape with only a little less than 100,000 actual miles. -2000.ooUSD!
(It wasn't a "second car". - Instead it was a 4th vehicle for the family & was seldom driven except on long trips.)

To keep it running as long/well as possible, what maintainence should I do to the old truck?

Are there any well-known problems, to that specific model, that should be checked during a PPI?

THANKS.

yours, tn46

To ALL,

125 views but not even one response. - Does NOBODY have actual experience with the 1996 Suburban & RELIABILTY modifications or "special concerns" for that model?
(I'm not very interested in more speed or towing capacity.)

yours,tn46

Clean the cooling stack # 1
Replace/rebuild injectors with Bosch nozles ONLY!
Replace glow plugs with Bosch Duratherm glow plugs,All other electrical parts on these trucks should be AC Delco ONLY!
Get a PMD relocation kit and mount it under/behind frt bumper
replace exhaust with diamond eye kit
replace exhaust crossover pipe with aftermarket
locate and install a stock K-47 air cleaner housing and filter from 97+ 6.5 truck
normal maintenance items-oil change, fuel filter ect.

Open water in fuel drain Tee-valve while engine is running to remove water from filter housing and note if truck stalls-lift pump may need attention?

Make sure that it has diesel fuel filler cap-gas caps are not properly vented.

Do battery cable fastener mod that requires the bolts be replaced by a long 3/8 bolt with a nut on it that is used to tighten the cable.

Those are a few off the top of my head.
