Default 2005 dmax for my 1996 12valve

Hey guys so i was presented with what seems like a wicked deal. I sell my 1996 12 valve and for w/e money i get my dad will gift me his 2005 duramax. For some it may seem obvious but for me its a hard decision to make because I f-ing love my 12valve.

Looking for your opinions on which truck will be cheaper to maintain in the long run? And which truck has better fuel economy.
I've already put so much money into my 12valve that it seems like sooner or later everything will be new. And the duramax is only going to start needing replacement parts in the next 100,000km or so.

Specs: 2005 Duramax 160,000km, 4x4, crew cab, short box, leather interior, super clean. Everything is stock and comes with a headache rack.

1996 12valve cummins 480,000km! extended cab, long box, 4x4. nv4500 transmission.
Things that have been done :Kdp, 4" turbo back exhaust, front shocks, ball joints, steering box, fuel solenoid, new batteries, new starter, control arms, front and rear diffs have been serviced along with the transfer case. Although i think the transfer case is gonna go pretty soon. it has a clunking sound when i put it in reverse so im guessing synchros will need to be replaced soon? Oil has always been changed the engine still has so much life left in it but i feel the body especially the front doesn't.

Any thoughts and input is much appreciated.

Whichever one you'd rather drive. Seriously, it's that simple. It's a helluva deal to walk away from, but it's about more than dollars and cents when you're an enthusiast. Sounds to me like your dad REEEEEALLY wants you to get rid of your 12V. Why might that be?

You could not give me a dmax, keep with the 12 valve it will be more reliable and cheaper in the long run. here is a question to ask your self: how many semi trucks run 8 cyl motors? yep that's right NONE.

On the other hand, Cummins is building a V8 now too. So.
