im looking into getting this 98 6.5 with 100k clean truck runs good, in the pass ive replaced lift pumps with fass can I replace the frame lift pump with a holly blue? and can I just tie it into the stock location? any help would be awesome thanks

98 is a good year for 6.5's. Oil sprayed pistons, beefed up cooling system, the perfect starting block for a damn good motor. You can replace the frame lift pump with just about anything you want. I've got a walbro frc-10 on mine. 15psi @ the i.p. I'm not sure about a holley blue, but as long as it doesnt put up more pressure than 15, is rated for diesel, is a 12v pump, and can be plumbed into the stock fuel lines, shouldn't have a problem. I would also recommend a "feed the beast" mod. It increases the fuel line from the filter manager output to the i.p. from 1/4" to 3/8". Also, if you are planning on doing a lift pump swap, you should install an inline pre-filter, and remove the tank sock, as it can clog and leave you stranded.

 

the thing runs good it has 4inch exhaust and the relocated pmd, the temp gauges only says about 190 running on highway??? im ordering the fuel mod tomorrow that goes from the fuel filter to ip??? im a cummins guy im new to the 6.5 world I know im not getting huge power I just want it to tow my 18ft boat n sled trailer good only thing is its a k1500

could ya give me a site or anything to get a walbro pump? im guessing yours is frame mounted my gas gauges freaks out at full tank so could I replace the in tank pump with a whole new unit would a stock one work? thanks for the help

Previous owner put a 195° stat in it. I have 180° stats in mine just for a little more headroom, but 195° is said to be the most efficient operating temp. You don't wanna get it over 210° whatsoever.
The fuel mod just increases the line size from the filter manager behind the intake manifold to the ip. You will need to get a machinist to drill and tap for the new fittings. You won't be able to tell the difference until you get a reflashed PCM, but the ip likes heavy supply flow, and 1/4" line is just too small IMO.
I have a 1995 k1500 ecsb 4x4. 270k on the original motor. Heads replaced with updated version and studded, dual thermostats, 96+ water pump, all @120k by previous owner. He also did the pmd relocate and a 4" exhaust. Since I've owned the truck, I've installed several little things, but the main mods are h/o injectors, egr delete, Heath tune, 2.5" crossover, boost & egt gauges, and a non wastegated Mitsubishi td07 turbo. It's actually a fun truck to drive. Way more torque than any other engine offered for this body style. I **** on 350's. I've never been on a dyno, but people with similar mods are pushing 300rwhp and upwards of 550ftlbs.
I pull a 24ft party barge to the lake atleast once a month during the summer and I don't have a worry in the world. Unloaded, she's a beast, plain and simple. So much torque for a half ton truck. So light for a diesel.
You can get the fuel line mod @ walkingjdesigns and leroydiesel has the walbro and a lot of other little things. If you wanna get a tune I recommend Heath diesel. They are cool people and he does all his own tuning. Also Heath sells a turbomaster, it's a manual boost controller. It's necessary for the tune, unless you ditch the stock turbo and stick an hx40w on it. Those work pretty damn good on these trucks too. Your a cummins guy you probably got a few laying around. People put hx35, even he351v's on them. The stock turbo is junk and I really recommend to get it off there ASAP.
Your gauge is either jumping from a bad ground or a shorting fuel sender. There is no in tank pump on these trucks, just the lift pump in the frame. Yes my walbro is mounted almost exactly where the stock one goes.

well I just ordered the lp walbro pump and lp bypass I think the feed the beast comes with two fitting so I don't need to tap it? do I need to take the filter housing off?

 

The filter housing will need drilled and tapped for the Walking J mod.

There is no in tank fuel pump-only the frame mounted LP.
Sending units for the gauge are common problems and Leroy Diesel sells a Metrum fuel rod that is meant to correct the situation.

Do NOT use the fuel sock from an aftermarket sending unit if you go that route-they have the wrong sock so eliminate it and use an inline screen pre LP or re-use the stock sock.
