You could check out the Springfield XD series pistols. You can configure the back straps and get the perfect feel. I personally use Glocks and Kimbers but to each his own.

The Kimber I want is $1200 I like Glocks. I like the way they feel and fit in my hand but I've never shot one. With them should I just stick with a 9mm(G19)? I want something that is going to have relatively easy to find and cheap ammo. What do you guys think of the .40(G23) and .357sig(G32)?

I have a G19 myself. My only complaint with it is the grip is a little short for my liking, but that is easily fixed with a longer mag and a grip extension on the mag.

After doing some reading and watching some videos I'm debating between a Glock 17 and Glock 19. I like the full size grip on the 17 but like the size of the 19 better. Should I go new or used? Obviously used is going to be cheaper but I think it might be easier to get a new one or to at least buy a used one through a store. Where I live, as long as your 10 minute background check comes back clean, you're walking out of the store with a brand new gun.

I don't like GLOCK, cause they have NO safety. Buy a 1911 or a CZ 75, both these guns have a thumb safety, both are ACCURATE & both can be carried COCKED-N-LOCKED If you want to buy a gun check out these two web-sites GUNBROKER & AUCTION ARMS

To each his own^^ thats actually one thing i like about he glock. but everyone is different. If you like the glock style, but want a safety, look into the XD series.

But as with everything in life, buy what suits your needs, and what feels right to you. you can have the shiniest, best looking gun in the world, but it dont mean squat if you cant shoot it accurately.

Amen to that ^^^^ The reason I went with the S&W is I'm a southpaw and that gun fit me the best. I wanted an XD until I handled one. It all boils down to what works for you, all we can do is suggest options for you to mull over.

I am a lefty as well. I had an XD 45 and sold it because it was awkward for me to handle like that. The glock is a little easier with it being sans safety and all. but the mag release is still a little funky. buti can deal with that

Thanks guys. My sister is also looking at a gun for defense and she shoots left handed so I've been looking for options for her as well. I think I'm just going to go with a 9mm but I'm going to check out a couple 1911 .45s as well.
