I hope you like skiing?
Hunny I'm from southern tenn. we are lucky if we see 5 inches of snow a year! this is a major change for us.... i mean MAJOR it's crazy.. im super excited tho! just to help yall see

we will be 70 hours from home( that's if you drive constantly that dont include hotel stays)...and 4,155 miles from home
in our winters our temps are 35 h- 15L
in our summers our temps are 89L-99H

their winters 22H- 9L but with an avg of 55 inches of snow
their summers 50 L- 70 H but with 22 hours of daylight

population 279,243

where i live.... population 1,300 ( and i swear i think thats too high)

Just a lot to take in...

O and i'm honestly scared to death of bears.... when i was younger like 10.. i used to have nightmares about bears in my yard!.... but I read more people are tramppled to death by moose than attacked by bears...

its a breathtaking place from what i can tell... every pic i have seen of the area has beautiful snow covered mountains! im pretty excited to move to alaska.... just wonder how long till im sick of the snow

Pretty sure it's not "overseas". It's OCONUS. Outside Continental United States.

Well that's good Dana, after you're "done" there you might just want to stay or relocate close to home. Then, when you have to go overseas again you can pick the most awesome place........sounds wonderful and you guys are sure to have a blast up there.

Youll enjoy it. An important part of surviving and enjoying winter in the cold is to make sure youve got adequate winter clothing. Believe it or not, lots of people run around underdressed and not prepared in the dead of winter (around here anyway)

Dana,
simply take it as a chance to develop new skills and experience.
I really hope you will try skiing and all the other wintersports- it's so much fun!
Hopefully you are not a couch potato??

You will get briefed about everything which will be important. And I still guess most bears are more afraid of us than vice versa.

Ha, Alaska. If I could I would visit Alaska. JD is also available in Alaska- shouldn't be a problem to get connected with home if needed.
Just inform yourself if those DIY movement programs still exist. You get some $$ back for doing your move yourself!

You only change the location- you won't get lost up there!
I always gathered as much info as possible in advance. So it was less stress.
Have fun. It's still a while until then.

we are planning to do a DITY move.... and we are really excited about Alaska.. and Im a fact junky.... i love reading fact sheets ( im a closet nerd...trust me)

I was only in Germany for 1 month during premob. I only went off base once for 1 day and had a blast. I think germany is a better place for single soliders. The only things i didnt like was how small everything was and how **** they are about recycling.

Hahahahahaha- Dirty, can you imagine what I don't like since several years? I freak out sometimes.
I know places with five (5!) different trashcans in front of your home- and they check it and leave at your home if it isn't sorted out!

But as everywhere, it depends where you are!
