If she doesn't want to go to work, then don't go. Be prepared for the consequences though, because there is always someone else willing to go the extra mile, whatever their motive may be. I don't blame you one bit for worrying about her safety, I would too. If you and her aren't comfortable with the predetermined demands of the job/position, then it's time to find something else for her to do. Simple as that, she knows what's expected of her in the event of bad roads (closed roads are an entirely different matter in my book), so either do it or find a new job. Nothing wrong with moving on if that's what works better for you guys.

Do whatever you need to feel safer, but don't blame the company, you don't have to work there.

 

If she has to be at her job to keep it, you should leave yours to give her a ride. Even if it costs you a few dollars. You do this because you have the 4X4 and you don't want hew to die in a car accident.

You are right that the store should just close for the day. But they don't so you just have to deal with it.

She's a half hour away, so if you take 3 hours extra out of your day--that is 1 hour there, 1 hour to get her to work, and 1 hour back--I'm pretty sure you can recover that later. If she is important to you the money you'd lose won't matter.

Or better yet you can explain to the child why you picked quick cash over mommy's safety.

Actually, I drive around quite a bit in a rear wheel drive F650 service truck without a locking rear end, but thanks for appreciating that some of us have done this all our lives because we have no choice in the matter.

Why not work for him? If he's that busy I don't see a reason why he shouldn't be able to support a truck for you year-round. The wrecker people around here are always busy, more work than they can do.

And, since you made this personal with the '*******' comment, you sound like a selfish {edited by request} if you want my honest opinion.

...quit while you're ahead. Yes it sucks but she has to go. You can either help her out with it, or go make a quick buck and worry all day. One thing you won't do is get anybody to side with you on this one. Be a man, help your woman.

 

i don't get to choose when people get plowed out, i plow more then one drive way.. there isn't enough time in a storm for me to do m work and take her to work too.
i'm fairly shure should would probably boot me to the curb is i was a poor *** white boy. witch shure it's admirable to go get her and take her to work....

i can't work for my farther, we live on a peninsula, work is limited down here. i help out once in a while, witch i don't get paid for...one of those " i raised u, why should i pay u things"
i have my 20' trailer i move the cars on out of town runs for him sometimes thats about it.

it's like today for instance it's new years... the only place open around here are the super market and irving gas station... thats it... but she had to go to work today!

seriously, nothing in my whole town is open, why is a friggan pet shop open on new years?

a pet shop is not a priority.... i can live with out goin to the pet shop.

i can see maybe supermarket, gas station maybe even a hard ware store.. they are all stores that help us live our daily lives. witch the 2 hardware stores in my town are both closed today. given we are going to have a big storm this weekend up to 2 feet.. i need a new shovel.. thought i would buy it before the storm but i guess not.

thats all it is, concerned for her safety. i realize the consequences. apparently so does she thats they she still goes to work. seems to me that an employer should ask anything of the employee to jeopardize their safety and not be held liable.

i work on an island, if it's too rough and windy we don't go to the island. hell it's not even possible to dock the boat up for that matter. but we don't loose any points or get fired due to an act of god.. i can't control the weather conditions. as an employee why should i be penalized?

 

Start supporting her ***! a little money now and then, pay the occasional bill , get her an suv with some good winter tires on it , an AAA membership , ya know!

Nobody, I mean NOBODY, not even emergency responders and hospital staff can be forced to drive in hazardous conditions. They often will and do, but that is only AFTER they get to work in the case of fire, police and ambulance. In the case of things like hospital staff or other "mission essential" type personnel, they have (or should) emergency response or contingency plans to report/depart early and keep staff in place and direct others to NOT attempt commuting. This is all standard procedure.

Nothing is worth risking your life getting in an accident or getting stranded in a blizzard. If the company says otherwise they are liable for a very large lawsuit. Talk to a lawyer.

 

with my job i am required to be out in the snow and stuff if a truck breaks i gotta go it dont matter if everyroad in pa is closed if they call i gotta go but the petstore thing i do agree with u on it is stupid they dont close but hey thats her job

#1 - I DO live in Fairbanks, Alaska. Define "bad weather", just so I can tell my Battalion Commander to go pack icemelt the next time he needs us all in at 0530 (5:30 a.m. for most of you) to go do a Battalion Fun Run at -25F! The NERVE of some people, eh?

#2 - I don't really much care for being shot at. Even after 20 years it's hard to get used to. It makes for a hostile work environment, so to speak. So, if I have to report at 0600 for yet ANOTHER oversees deployment "to secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves, and Our Posterity", and I get, oh, I dunno, SHOT IN THE FREAKIN' HEAD and KILLED, who would get to sue whom? Who would get the money? DO I REALLY GIVE A CRAP? It's a job, hero. If you/she don't like it, just remember this: she was looking for a job when she found this one, she can find another one!

#3 - The "sue someone" comment has me siding with Mr. Miyagi, here. Dude, seriously? That's SO much a "Nintendo Generation" comment. Man-up, reach down, give a squeeze, and complete the freakin' mission! Our Petmart is open, even at -50F and blowing wind, selling animal supplies to all the good boys and girls who are willing to go out in bad weather and pay their hard earned money for it. Call it having a job. Call it running a business. Call it Capitalism! I call it America, and take it from someone who's seen the other end... it's the best thing out there! That is, as long as we can hold off the frivolous lawsuits!
