Don't know how it is in SD but in TX if you have an aggrevated misdemeanor you don't have to serve jury duty I stole some beer (26 cases) when I was a young one and got caught stupid kids! I don't recommend doin that to get out of it but if you have done anything stupid like me, you might check on it.

So maybe I should just find someone I don't like and crack them one. That should be an aggravated misdemeanor. That could work.

I have been lucky, I never get called, But whatever case you go to, just say That guy has to be guilty or else the police wouldn't have arrested him !!You'll see how fast you'll get pulled out of jury duty !!

Hypothetically speaking, If you NEVER acknowledge reciept of the jury duty summons, how can they PROVE you did recieve it? It comes in REGULAR mail! Not certified, not Process served, so IF you NEVER recieved it, and DO NOT respond to it (Which would be proof you recieved it) It must have gotten LOST in the mail system...

Sounds like it's too late for you. Good luck!

Nothing like shirking your civic duty as a productive member of todays society.

1st ya admit you don't vote & then are looking for excuses to get you out of something you should feel honored to do instead of something you are trying to weazle out of.

Would you want your jurors to whine/cry/weazle out of serving & then get stuck with the mouth breathers that can't think for themselves?

Hate to tell ya, but in SC that won't fly at all. They say they mailed it and you say you didn't get it, they call you a liar. Instant bench warrant, and taxi service.

I got thrown in jail for the night for contempt of court due to causing a "ruckus" by making a wild-*** statement about the person accused and how I knew he was guilty

I guess everyone is entitled their opinion, but I don't agree that if it is going to cause great financial hardship for your family, I don't care who you are, then the civic duty isn't worth it. To each their own. I'm sure the way you talk, you wouldn't have to worry about losing a few hundred bucks per week due to jury duty, but that isn't the case with everyone.
