stinking jury duty

Well, a month ago, I got a letter saying I was selected for 2009 jury duty. A couple of days ago, I got another letter saying that I am expected to appear for jury selection on Jan. 5th and to call the night before. What the heck can a guy do to get out of this crap. I never used to register to vote so I didn't have to go through this crap, but South Dakota changed from registered voters to registered driver's licenses this year.
I want to see guilty people pay for their crimes and all, but not if it is going to cost me $200-300 per day (work lost). Not to mention it's not like I have vacation days being self employed.

That sucks a big one:argh::madd: Since your self employed I would think that will get you out of it. Can't run a business from a court room.:booo:

That's what I am kind of hoping for, but when I was put on call or whatever for the year, I had to fill out a form and write a letter if there was a reason I couldn't do it. I told them that I will be loosing money and I am the sole money maker in the household and now this.

You can get out of jury Duty if your self employed and can show proof that you will lose business or money:U::c: Good Luck

Just got a call telling me that they settled out of court, but there is another one for the 13th. I think it has something to do with a guy pleading guilty to a dui for having the keys in his hands, but the judge wouldn't accept the plea. WTF?? Oh, well. I'll tell them about me being a sole proprietor for my business. No worky= no food for my family. And I will tell them my outright BIASED opinion.

Lovely. Got a call today saying I have to call Wednesday night to see if I need to go in and the wife asked how we are supposed to pay our bills since I am the sole provider and the lady told her that even if it will make me lose my house, I have to serve. Only thing I can do is write the judge a letter.
I found on the web somewhere that one of our judges wouldn't even excuse a woman with a newborn after the newborn was 6 weeks old so she could breastfeed. Heartless F-ers. I think I am screwed.
Oh, yeah, they said I have to call every Sunday for the next 6 months to see if there are any cases.
