I understand that, and I'm not sure how many there are or how often they are on. The welcome one is probably the only one I think is an important one especially in the intro section I've noticed on other forums if senior/ mods do it everyone else follows.

What about an auto reply to posts in the Intro section? A post with an introduction to the current staff, a breakdown of the site layout, and how the site works?

the ONLY way to make that work is to restrict the new member from posting ANYWHERE on the site until they make an intro thread. therefore forcing them to post an intor thread. they can join up and read every forum, just can not post until they have 1 post in the introduction section. there will have to be an error message created explaining WHY they can't post when they try to post elsewhere....

until then you will still have people making their first post in the badlands, by somehow getting the password without age verification....

Let me rephrase the above. The only way to make it work for the people who really need this info, is to do the above. It will also help weed out spam. People who just join to trade a transmission and post in other forums because they can not post in the classifieds section. This will likely detur them initally from doing what they shouldnt do....

Just an idea. I'm on the Steel Soldiers forum, and when you first join, they make you view the forum rules and thank the poster before you can do anything. Maybe there could be something like that, including a list of the moderators.

And I agree that we need to focus on the diesel side of things. After all, this is a diesel forum, and I think that having two off topic sections and a sportsman section is more than plenty.

well i'm going to go out on a limb to try and get the tech section going. i'l just start making threads on the things i've dealt with and how to fix it. i'm not looking to get a
bunch of replies, just to put informative matter out there.

if any of my buddies have a problem with there pickup i post here to try and get answeres if i don't know. if i had a question i use to get alot more answeres then now. any more if i have a problem i will just email joe directly. i just don't seem to get the answeres i need from here any more

like said before, the ****, (not art martin. you need to get a grip on reality.) don't need to be there. the demotivational and wtf, those don't need to be there. the F*** thread, yeah just for general conversing is alright but if you don't say F*** martin thinks it's the end of the world. who cares, and if you say one little thing wrong some one gets their panties in a wad. if you can't take a joke then don't log on.

i agree there is a lot of junk that needs cleaned up here. when i joined i found the site thru a google search just trying to fix my pickup. when i found the site i thought there was a lot of great information here and i was impressed, so i became a member.

hell i didn't even know the bad lands and off topic sections existed for the first year. at first i liked BL but now it just gets old. yes i go there every day and the only threads that actually stay active are the ****, stupid pictures, and the F*** thread. ok, so martin keeps them alive. but for what? there is zero usefull information there.

ok so im coming to the party a little late. i didnt read all the previous posts bc theres so many of them so forgive me if i duplicate things a little.

here are my suggestions

TECH SECTION
1 we just need to get the word out that we have these to all the members. doing so will help people to start taking pictures and doing write ups about how a product installed
2 maybe try to get members some incentive to post in these section. no clue what that would be but make people think "hey if i take pictures of this install i get ___"

Contests

when i first joined up here there was almost always some kind of contest going on or some giveaway. it seems silly but it gives people yet another reason to join the fourm.

truck of the month AND show and tell

i really like this idea. i dont always stop and look at the pictures of the trucks that people post so its nice to see some other clean/sexy rigs.

automotive industry news

i dont care if fiat is coming out with a new car or what audi is doing. that doesnt effect me. i would totally ditch this section. if people want to know about these new things let them use the great god google to find it out. i would like to see this section remain if it becomes just diesel related. i.e. dodges new concept truck the long hauler.

potential owners

personally i think this is another some what wasted section. if your looking at buying a 6.7 powerstroke post in that section and ask question about it, that is after all where you will get the best response.

alternative fuels and other stuff

...dont really know what purpose this serves. seems like a random section that could go away that few people would notice. (atleast i know i wouldnt even know its gone.

audio

i can see how this would be useful to some but if the objective is to have a diesel specific website then toss it.

shade tree/mechanic/fab

i like this section. for several reason
1 i can see if someone out there is making something i want
2 i can find someone that can do fab work that is beyond what i can do
3 i see it as giving the little guy a leg up. that is, helping these backyard DIY guys make a little cash for the work they do.

specific purpose general discussion

i can see how that ties into thing. it makes sense to have this. some of us are truck drivers. the majority of us bought a diesel for a reason be it farm equipment or construction or what have you so many of us are around other diesel engines regularly.

diesel related events

i dont know about yall but most people know where the diesel events in their area are. and those who dont can post in the "club/group/state" thing we have and find out if they want to know whats going on in their neck of the woods.

sled pulling AND street and track racing AND dyno

seems to me like this could all be combine into on thing.

the bomb shelter

its like a catch all for everything we havent covered. its great bc lets face it the majority of us have a wife/gf/bf/friend that drives a gasser and we may have a question about that. for the most part the people on here dont just have knowledge about diesels so i believe this section is a good catch all for other tech stuff.

i also like how it brings up some random stories that you may not have heard about other wise.

sportsmens lounge

...not even automotive related. if you wanna find out about colts new (insert name here) just google it. im an FFL dealer and ive only posted in this section a few times.

the badlands

personally i love this section. its a place to hear some political stories that i might not have otherwise. its also cool to get other peoples opinions about the state of things.

the ****/demotivational threads are kind cool. personally i just go to the demotivational thread for some quick laughs before i go to school or when ive had a crappy day.

bombardier section

no one even posts here. i just checked and the last posts where over 2 months ago. so whats the point to this section if it doesnt get used.

the site related section is kinda pointless. not everyone who visits us will want to or be able to pay the membership fee but that doesnt mean they shouldnt have a say in what happens here. (guessing thats why you posted this thread here)

IN SUMMARY
i like this forum, always have and probly always will. we (by we i mean the smart people) need to decide if we want to go hard diesel, in which case we have to ditch everything thats not diesel. or if we want to just trim some of the fat but leave a little. as i said above there are some random sections that arnt diesel related that i like. but if they go away i would live.
