Thats acctually a very touchy subject really. Some Dieselbears will pull over a dually pulling a 40ft race car trailer from NY in.... Maryland Stating its commercial business cause hes making money (winnings) from racing.
Others wont touch a 3 car haulin hotshot with a 10 foot pole, n hes obviously making money n over weight. especially the non stickered ones.
Honestly, I would call DOT and ask that question. Then Call them 10 days later n ask again just to see what answers u get.
Not DMV, DOT. dmv is worthless, I dont care what state your in.
Honestly, I dont think you need to be stickered as a regulated/registered as a commercial transporter, being as you are most likely already registered as a business owner n all that junk.

Thanks, I will call DOT to see what they say. I haven't been pulled over yet, but my luck may run out someday. The truck I tow with is in my sig, and the trailer is a 7'x14' twin axle utility trailer. I'm not worried about weight since the dyno weighs a total of about 3500#, and the trailer is rated for 10k. I've been told once that having lettering on the truck makes it commercial. That's from a guy who drives a tow truck. Not sure how accurate he is, so I figured I'd ask here.

Yeah one u letter the truck for the business, now your advertising. I dont think id worry with something that small. The trailer is registered right?

What I would do is just stay out of the scales altogether, and keep doin it like you are. If they mess with you, go to court, more than likely the judge will throw it out. I saw a minivan pullin a little U-Haul trailer go in a set of scales in Va once, then he was goin around the back to get some kinda ticket, not sure what. A lot of people go in scales when they don't need to or can get away with out goin in. It's when you go in there that you get in trouble. That's my advice.

Yeah, the trailer is registered, and I have never bothered stopping at the scales so I don't know the exact weight, but I just don't want the hassle of getting a ticket... or worse. I'll call DOT to see what they say, and I'll avoid the scales too.

Thanks for the advise.

Anytime, me and most other drivers are very familiar with the dot laws, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. Most of the time we can tell you the law, then how to get around it.

Don't play around with the redlights in Benbrook Tx. just for your information. I am the proud recipient of yet another ridiculous driving award. People r gonna start gettin jealous of all my trophies after awhile.

If any of you come through Columbia SC on I-20 or I-26 watch the speed. Troopers have been sitting on the bridges with radar guns and a line of cop cars or trucks on the get on ramp to chase you down.
As far as weigh stations, all have been closed more than usual, and that has been the norm all over the state lately.

Yeah, they like to sit on the bridges on I-85 in S.C. too with a laser and 5 chase cars 1/4 mile up the road.
