Default 06 audio question

Ok first off what would cause my stock head unit to work intermittently? It may work and then I cut my key off and it may not work again or it may its really starting to get on my nerves.

Second if I do replace my head unit can I use the stock navigation unit plastic from a truck and use a double din unit?

I can only answer the first question.

90% of all interruptions are caused by bad wiring. Check the connectors to and from the head unit to power supply and in this special case the ACC power line. Keep a special eye on ground returns. For some reasons they are mostly overlooked.

Yes, actually I just exchanged my stock deck that was non-nav, for a trim panel that is nav, and installed a double din alpine deck. Easy as pie.

I need help with mine also. The screen quit working 99% of the time. Every now and then it will come back on for a min or so then go back off. Station buttons still work but u can't switch to cd. Any clues?

This was when it just randomly came on few weeks ago but went back off.

Try totally disconnecting the harness from the deck, then plugging it back in. Cause a reset. This can sometime help frozen decks. Next option is to buy a nice aftermarket double din.

Usually when the display fails, dirt in the plastic conductor is the cause.

Yah, you are reading right: "plastic conductor". It is a small strip connecting the display with the on-board PCB.
Tech alcohol and cotton swabs can be used to clean the connector. Do not try this by yourself. It's a job for the trained technican.
