I've come across this article talking about constructing a homebuilt preluber.
It's basicly a 12V oil pump, and toggle switch. He activates it while waiting for the heater grid, and says he gets 30 PSI before he cranks the engine. He also says you can use it after shutdown, to prevent oil coking.
It all sounds good, but I wanted to ask here, you think it'd be worth it to install?

When I wanted to do this and asked this same question, the responses I got from the folks I trusted was that if you are running a very high HP engine that isn't used very often as in sled pullers and strictly drag trucks, they are needed. But for us normal truck folks they won't make enough difference to be worth the effort. Take it for what it is worth. Just another neat gadget to take up space time and money.

Don't know much about them. Never had anyone interested. Like 99 mentioned, I think it's for a niche group.

 

I was told basically the same thing. If you had an emergency generator that went from not running to full load with no warm up time, then you would need it.

 

Shoot ol' Muddy got a 91 Cummins now with 600K miles and no problems without a pre oiler...

I'm up to 100K and not even leaking yet...

I agree just another neat toy to eat up money on...
