Homebuilt Preluber. Worth it?
I've come across this article talking about constructing a homebuilt preluber.
It's basicly a 12V oil pump, and toggle switch. He activates it while waiting for the heater grid, and says he gets 30 PSI before he cranks the engine. He also says you can use it after shutdown, to prevent oil coking. It all sounds good, but I wanted to ask here, you think it'd be worth it to install? http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/engine/prelube_const.htm |
I think it would work ok. Call the guy in that link. His number is posted.

When I wanted to do this and asked this same question, the responses I got from the folks I trusted was that if you are running a very high HP engine that isn't used very often as in sled pullers and strictly drag trucks, they are needed. But for us normal truck folks they won't make enough difference to be worth the effort. Take it for what it is worth. Just another neat gadget to take up space time and money.

AMSOIL has a similar piece called a pre-oiler. Here's a link:
http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/amk.aspx Don't know much about them. Never had anyone interested. Like 99 mentioned, I think it's for a niche group. |
