Default MF 165 Steering Question

My old Massey has developed a fluid leak in the steering system that I can't figure out. Right behind the dash is what looks like a steering gear that the shaft goes into. I can't find any grease fittings, no filler cap or drain and worst of all the manuals I have don't show anything being there. So where is this leak coming from.

if you are talking about power steering they are no fluid there. power steering on these tractors are on the front end. the only thing in there where you are talking about is a worm gear. there is a plate that you take off for service. call if you want. maybe i can help.

Have you checked the seals to see if they are worn

Well, steering has turned into the least of my problems now. Time for the rebuild. The Hydraulics are gettin weak and it needs a new clutch. Guess it's gonna be a busy winter.

It's startin leavin an oil slick behind it the other day and it looks like it's makin it's own oil again, Leaking diesel into the oil. That was the final straw that it's time to work on it. Looks like the injector pump seal is leaking into the block.

At this point, as long as money holds out it looks like it's gonna be a complete rebuild on the hydraulic pumps, clutch, engine and injection pump. The rear differential is in question. It's got some popping in one side but we haven't decided if it's bad enough to pull it apart again.

What I can't figure out is the fact that the motor oil still looks good, is holding a steady level and doesn't smell like diesel. But All this oil leaking out is coming from someplace.

before you rebuild the hyd. system, replace the relief valve and see if that was it. if not they are not hard to rebuild.

I've worked on a few Massey's and they (atleast the smaller tractors) have the worst steerign systems EVER.
