I have a dead pedal in my truck right now. But it does something wierd. In the mornings before the truck gets up to operating temp. it will go into the dead pedal mode and i wont be able to recover it like i can when the motor is warm. Usually when its warm i can just let off the throttle and when i get back on it the pump is back to normal. I have to shut the truck off and restart it for the pump to return to normal. I have the 0216 code. Can anyone shed some light on my problem. Do you think it is electrical or the diaphram?
TIA James

oh yea and sorry for hijacking the thread but i figured you guys would know if this might fix my truck because this would be way better than 1000 bucks for a new one.

you could unhook the grid heater and try to start it on ether, if that doesnt do it then its more serious. i have to start my 99 cummins on ether now because it loses pressure to the vp untill i fix where its sucking air, but i just give it 2 shots of ether and crank it and it starts right up.

What do you do when you have a communication error between the vp44 and the ECM does this fix that problem as well and what does it mean when I can't even get it to fire on ether

As a diesel mechanic anyone that uses ether on an engine is looking for some major trouble with ring and super high cylinder pressures. Ether will blow your rings out if not scar your cylinder walls at a minimum! That is just my 2 cents.

1693 is just a companion code. You'll have to dig a little deeper with a scanner to find out what else is going on.
