because the 6 tunes you have now are very generic... scts tunes/custom tunes yeild better programs. more adjustablity in the tunes them selfs. if the trans is shifting to hard. call them up. have them send you another version of the file and boom smooth sailing .

sct reads all the pids that the engine/truck sees, eingine oil temp, coolant temp, transmission gear.. etc... they are primarly setup best on a ford but are growing in popularity in chevy and dodge

I get the part about custom tunes, but what about when I'm cruising down the highway in mileage mode and decide I need some more umph to make a pass, is this an option with the SCT, or am I "stuck" in mileage mode?

The other point is that I'd rather not have to blow a bunch of cash for the gauges I'd loose too.

You just leave the SCT in the highest tune you have, as they usually have the best MPG anyways.

The SCT is also the only one to tune the transmission.

Think about what you're doing when you go from mileage tune to your "extreme" tune and nothing else changes on the tranny....

My Edge Juice Platinum has transmission settings. The current one I'm using ups firmness in response to power. While I don't get the second gear chirps like the C-4 in my old Mustang (weighing in at 2860 with 26" tires), I do get firm, positive shifts when I have my foot in the middle of it at any Level.

That is all it does though. The SCT can actually access the TCM and make changes as it needs to. It is a far superior product to the edge. My SCT would chirp tires into second gear with 32" tires at just under 8000lbs haha (I know it's not even close to the mustang's setup, I'm just messing with you. Though it would really chirp tires...)

The old Edge's were notorious for killing transmissions because they made decent power. The new Edge's dont make the power so the tranny's last longer. The SCT still wins hands down.

Until you get headstuds and an EGR delete, I'd recommend just a mild street tune from Eric @ Innovative diesel. Call him up, he will get you set up and let you know everything you need to know.

Id recommend an SCT from Elite with High Power, Tow Power and Economy. I would do the Aggressive Tow-Haul, EGR Cancel, and Locked Converter. Once you do Studs then we can get ya the Insanity Tune

Ok, I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here

YES or NO: Does the SCT provide a gauge cluster like the Edge?

$255 for a 2 gauge a-pillar set-up (Summit Racing). On TOP OF the SCT unit AND extra tunes is a little spendy for a more or less stock set up like mine.

The Xcal and SF do not, but you can get the livewire which does have built in gauges, and you would need the EGT probe extra with it for they pyro function to work.

I still prefer the stand alone analog gauges. All of these other screen ones read off of the factory computer anyways, so they're just doubling whatever gauges you already have for the most part.
