Default trans upgrade

You need to tell us more about your truck's usage ie towing or not, what milage is on your truck and what kind of performance equiptment you have in mind. I just traded my 01 2500 4x4 auto with Edge with Attitude and 3:54 fd for a 04.5 3500 4x4 auto with 3:73 fd and a Smarty jr. My old truck had about 40k miles pulling a 5k trailer, 10k pulling a 8k toy hauler and the rest mt. When I hit 93k I put the Edge on and in 300 miles the 3-4,4-3 shift was shuttering, bad Torque converter. I think the TQ was getting weak from age and the chip pushed it over. These transmissions are made for stock power only and if you tweek the power the TC is the weak link. IMO if Dodge would have spent $300-400 more in the transmission it would be a great unit but they chose to cut costs. After spending $3000 I got a great shifting unit that will last many years with my towing and performance upgrade but I wanted a larger truck and will probably have to go through this transmission too with the usual :triple disk tc, valve body/shift kit beefier bands etc. The upgrades are pretty well known in most good transmission shops and from various specialty trans shops around the country.

id like to build it but idk ive never worked on a auto, but i want to learn and have the pateince.. it is possibly my daily driver but i have two goosenecks 14ft dump trailer and 25ft tandem dual that i will pull occasionally through the yr.. they weigh from 6k to26k with the backhoe, i plan on a muffler delete and intake and i like the edge cts for the fact it is guages and tuner all in one, it has 93k miles on it now but i know i will be pushing the limits and want to be ahead of the game... id like to pump it up to 500hp nothing extreme and the most towing to be done is a car trailer..
