Default Transmission died AGAIN

I'm not sure what the heck is going on with my truck,

But i'm pretty sure I yacked another converter' ( the nice DPC triple disc one this time )

I'm pondering having it torn back apart, and having another ( different shop ) go through it, or just ordering one from some good company,

Question is, who is said company ? Who do you all recommend ?

I've heard ups and downs about a few of them,

Don't know if i should just order 2500$ worth of parts and have a diesel shop put them in, or possibly tear this thing down my self ?

What's the best options ?

Same thing as last time, it was working fine. took off from work. getting on the freeway, and it almost seemed like i lost thrid gear, so i down shifted to second, and still nothing, up until it was buckin and bumpin, the only way it would move is WOT, and even then, it wouldn't do much.

I pulled over, and waited 45 mins for the tow truck. trying every so often to see if it would move, and nothing,

Plenty of fluid, gear selector workin fine, just no forward or reverse.

Never really shifted all that well out of the shop i had it built at last time, but as i had " aftermarket " parts in there, they wouldn't deal with it. ( suncoast V/B and the TRQ converter.

i'm going to make some phone calls today and see what i can do.

Luke, can you call DPC for me ? and see what the turn around time is on another converter ? i think i may want one a little closer to stock specs this time. PM if you can with his options please ,

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

So i spoke with DPC, and he told me no matter what the problem was, ( converter wise ) he'd help with what ever i needed,

I went to clean out my truck so the shop can have a cleaned out rig. I figured i'd see what it would do. Fired up and put it in gear, and wait wait wait, and a little bit of movement. So i'm pretty sure it's not an input shaft or flex plate. so i'm thinkin

1. Converter
2. Oil pump or seals
3. Chuck norris resides in my transmission

The shop i'm heading towards is a long time friend of a co worker of mine. They are going to tear it down completely, and let me take pictures and figure out what i need, and what i allready have.

Dude seems super cool, and willing to work with me on what ever i need.

I think i'm going with new ( HD )solonoide pack, and cleaning every thing up again,

And possibly addin that secondary trans cooler with fan under the bed.

The thought had crossed my mind to go 5 or 6 speed, but then i remembered, i hate rowing, and i like the get in and go factor ( provided that it works well )

Enough ranting, will post updates as i get them !

Sounds like it just needs a good rebuild.

Hey Bud,

We aren't far from you, and we deal with Phil Taylor at DPC all the time. If you need a hand and want it done right let me know. Ask Phil about us.

News :

So the tech at the tranny shop i spoke to was EXTREMELY helpful.

He found no obvious reason that it died, he suspects converter failure.

He was showing me the clutch packs for the forward drum and direct drum ? All the friction parts were burnt / bluing, most likely due to the harsh 2/3 flare up'

He gave me a list of goods and awesomes, and i went with the best of the best,

HD input shaft and drum, and the billet servos and the total works,

He's going to build it to last, and " Tune and adjust " the V/B and everything that's doable to this tranny,

He's putting a nice after market cooler in with the system, and fixing some wiring.

All in all about 5,000$ plus shipping the converter back to DPC for what ever it needs

Will update again !

I agree. You already have a vlave body and upgraded servos from suncoast to the billet ones are not a whole lot but work well. Are you getting added clutch packs? That is a stout price I want to say my dad was into his around 4500 with billet input converter and valve body with a deep pan
